- Wintry day at the Slieve Russell

Few members turned out to compete for the annual Frank Reihill Memorial Cup, but those that attended were generally happy with the conditions - windy and cold BUT dry. Pauric Geogeghan was defending the trophy he won last year but he was outgunned this year by Vinny Smith who recorded a great 34 points in the conditions which included two birdies (almost three) and one broken pitching iron. A brilliant wedge shot into the eleventh gave Vinny a five foot put for his first birdie, while a 100 metre pitch to the par 5 thirteenth got the same result. He also left another birdie put an inch from the hole over the water at the sixteenth.
Damien Curran carded 32 points and a butcher... He hit a tree wood which rebounded and hit his playing partner Pauric - not Pauric's first strike at this game. Damien was rewarded with the high category prize while Brendan Allen took the low category prize with the same score.
The next outing for the society will be to Dungannon Golf Club at the start of May - a course we have enjoyed playing over the years (watch here for the date of this outing)
Members were told on the day that this year's weekend away will be to Co Meath in June, playing the excellent Headfort Golf Club on the way. Other information on this will follow.

Lisnaskea Golf Society

- A brief description

Lisnaskea Golf society was created by a group of golfers to organise golf outings with a competetive edge.

The society usually hold events monthly. All society members are informed of upcoming events, they must then specify whether or not they will be attending this event.

- Society Handicap

Each golfer has a handicap set by the Golf Course that they are a member of. A society handicap is calculated by subtracting a varying amount from this handicap based on recent performance on society outings.

- Prizes

When an event is complete each golfer returns their score-card for their Stableford points and Gross scores are calculated. The overall winner is the person with the highest total stableford points and this person has 2 subtracted from his society handicap. There is also a prize for highest gross score and this player has 2 subtracted from his society handicap. There are also a set of prizes for stableford points in each handicap bracket (0 to 18, 19 to 22 and 22+), each of these prize winners have 1 selected from their society handicap. There are also prizes for the best first nine score and the best back nine score, the golfers that win these prizes have 0.3 subtracted from their society handicap.

There is also a "2's Competition at each event. Each person that wants to enter must pay £1. Proceeds are the divided between all players who score a 2 on any hole of their round. In the event that an entered player scores an ace (hole-in-one) in their round they automatically take half the prceeds with the remainder divided between those scoring 2's.

- Golfer of the Year

At each event an accumulative score is kept of each players performance. The top 15 golfers at each event are award 1 to 15 points on a sliding scale. If two or more golfers are level on points then the golfer with the best back nine score will place higher. If however two or more golfers are still level then the golfer with the best score for the last six holes wins. If there is still a tie then the best score for the last 3 holes is taken and in the rare event of two players still being tied then the player with the best score for the final hole places higher.
